Shed Control and Embrace Your True Self in the New Year - January Tarotscopes 2019

Capricorn

Three of Knives (Swords)

Happy birthday month, and happy new year, Capricorn! Your gift this month is gently reframing some old pain, so you don’t have to keep hurting the same way this year. Things that have felt stuck, like gravel in an old wound, are ready to come out. Focus on the story you’re telling yourself about what hurt you and why.

Notice especially where you’re blaming yourself. The story is where you have control. When you change the words you say to yourself, you start to change the way you feel about yourself, and the way you move in the world.

Aquarius
Five of Cups, reversed

Good news, Aquarius, you are moving out of a period of grieving. This is the point when you’ve allowed enough space to honor the spilled cups and your feelings about them, and now you turn to the full cups waiting for you to take a sip.

Things won’t ever go back to the way they were before, but that’s actually a good thing. You’re different now, stronger, and wiser, and you no longer fit in that before place. Like, kindergarten might have been great but you’re too tall for those little desks now. Bless it for the lessons, and move on.

Pisces
Queen of Pencils (Wands)

Pisces, you know you’re magical, right? The Queen of Wands is a casual, powerful blending of the elements of fire and water, holding two extremes in one being. As a water sign, you’re a natural at feeling and intuiting. This month, you can begin to claim some of your fire power as well.

Listen closely to your energy, the life force of your body. What do you desire? What drives you? What creative project is asking to be expressed through you? This is a good time to take action, move towards your desires, and make your mark on the world.

Aries
Ace of Lemons (Pentacles), reversed

Is there something you’re thinking about starting, Aries? If so, what’s holding you up? The Ace of Lemons shows that there’s a real concrete opportunity here, and the reversal shows some hesitation to take it.

You don’t have to say yes to everything, but you might want to at least consider this one. There’s some fruitful work to be done with the feelings behind your hesitation. Are you afraid you can’t do it? Does it just not feel right? Check in with yourself about this option, and if it’s a no, that’s cool. If it’s a yes, go for it!

Taurus
The Moon, reversed

Taurus, this month brings you deep into the world of the unconscious and mystery. The Moon rules our deepest instincts, the evolutionary traits our bodies have inherited from our ancestors, and the esoteric realm of archetypes we’ve inherited from our culture.

With the reversal, the focus seems to be more on the body than the mind. Your body is the locus for your ancestral connection, and your intuition. Eat the foods from your ancestors’ lands, pay attention to the signals your body sends you, and keep track of your dreams. You may want to start working with the moon phases, and see if you feel different on a full moon than a new moon.

Gemini

Seven of Pencils (Wands), reversed

January is your time to take back your energy, Gemini. This card has a feeling of putting in some serious work to maintain your emotional boundaries, position, and reputation. It’s like diverting all the power from a house to run an electric fence around it. Safe, but not much fun to live in. And you deserve fun! You need it to live!

So practice taking care of yourself with the things that feed your fire. Do something creative just for you. And ask for support from people who appreciate you. You’re freeing up your energy so it can go where it’s really needed.

Cancer
Ten of Cups

Cancer, just enjoy this month. Simple, right? See how much you can actively appreciate the people in your life. This is a time of comfort for you, like endless cups of coffee with your best friends.

There will be lots of opportunities for you to pause and look around you and think, this is what it feels like to belong, to be loved, to be happy. Even when you’re at the DMV, even in a boring meeting, even when you’re grocery shopping. Every moment is precious, if you can appreciate it, and feel how it connects you to other people.

Leo
The Hanged Woman, reversed

It’s ok to be the odd one out, Leo. This month, you have an amazing opportunity to be really vulnerable and open and downright weird. There’s a little trepidation, though, in letting go of control of your image. Face that fear so you can take this opportunity, because there’s something amazing in it.

Where do you feel like you can’t go against expectations? When do you prioritize performance over content? What are you worried people will think if you’re really open? Trust that you will be safe, even if you shed control and share the not-perfect parts of yourself.

Virgo
The Hermit

You’re in home territory this month, Virgo. Each zodiac sign is associated with one of the tarot major arcana, and yours is The Hermit. This means that January is filled with moments that resonate with your life purpose and true nature.

You get to feel more clearly what it means to be you, here in service to the collective. You are whole and complete on your own, but you are also a guide and a teacher to others. Make sure to give yourself some regularly scheduled alone time to process and meditate. And when you’re asked, share your wisdom freely.

Libra
Five of Pencils (Wands)

Libra, get ready for some beautiful chaos. This month is bringing a benevolent energetic shakeup. This card feels like everything is going in different directions all at once, which can be scary or invigorating. Take the initiative to frame this as a fun type of chaos. Improvisation and play are your two best friends to get your energy moving and clear out some cobwebs.

Move your body, rearrange your closet, take a spontaneous day trip. You might even want to engage in some friendly competition. A shakeup like this always leads to a re-settling, and it’s always somehow better than before.

Scorpio
Page of Knives (Swords)

A fresh start is on the books for you, Scorpio. The Page of Knives brings an enthusiastic amateur’s approach to the realm of the mind and knowledge. Of course you’re not a newbie, you’ve experienced and learned a lot, but wouldn’t it be a really fun change of pace to live like you don’t already know everything?

There’s deep wisdom in an innocent beginner’s mind approach. So try it out this month, and see what you learn. Practice saying, “I didn’t know that,” and “what if” and “I wonder.” Let yourself be curious, that’s the best way to begin, again and again.

Sagittarius
Nine of Pencils (Wands), reversed

Sagittarius, January is your well-deserved pause to regroup. There’s a lot of fire energy in the air, with your creative projects and desire to test your own limits. There’s no rush, nothing to prove. All of that fire you’ve put out into the world has its own life now, and it can keep going without you. It’s ok to rest and ask for help.

You’re not going to lose any of the ground you’ve gained. Frankly, this close to the finish line, you could even just fall over and you’d still hit it. Pause now, and you get to cross in style.
